Tactile Anatomy Immersion: Get to Know Your Organs (In Person in Berkeley, CA)

Our organs keep us alive and in good health—but how well do you actually know them in your own body? Can you sense them? Did you know the pancreas feels like a wet bag filled with overcooked oatmeal, or that the heart is more of a vortex than a pump?

Join Bex Naj, Elena Lake, and Dr. Myles O'Donnell for a day of organ stories and embodied exploration. Elena will introduce the art of tactile sensing and help you connect with your own innate sensing capacities. Myles will share locations, functions, and textural cues for various abdominal organs, along with stories from their clinical practice. Bex will guide you into the “mind” of each organ through gentle movement, partnered touch, dialogue, and group explorations of organ dynamics.

Possible organs we’ll explore include the lungs, heart, esophagus, stomach, blood, pancreas, liver, small intestine, large intestine, and kidneys. We’ll work with tactile and experiential cues on our own torsos, with partners, and with props—cradling water balloons to explore hydrostatic pressure, or reenacting embryological patterns through group movement.

Our organs can store mechanical tensions that radiate to other parts of the body—such as the shoulders or neck. Myles will demonstrate organ release techniques on volunteers, while Bex leads partnered touch and dialogue to help us sense our organs from the inside out. Together, we’ll discover how their origins, shapes, and relationships offer insights into our whole selves.

This workshop explores the communicative capacities of our nervous and endocrine systems across local, global, and relational scales.

The evening is part of Soma Nidra: Body Tripping through the Communities of You, a series of multi-scale body trips in a monthly workshop format. These trips explore your embodied anatomy through gentle movement, Yin and Restorative Yoga, and Soma Nidra. Soma Nidra is Bex Naj’s somatic approach to Yoga Nidra, a practice that bridges our conscious and unconscious minds through storytelling and deep rest. Bex keeps it somatic by grounding the stories she tells in the felt-sense awareness of your body and breath as dynamic processes. Over the course of the series, we’ll explore our inner space through the body maps of western anatomy, physiology, and embryology, integrating these into an energetic practice that allows us to melt away tension, rest deeply, and illuminate the mysterious places within to see what they have to say. These classes are appropriate for all levels of yoga and will often feature drawing and/or journaling prompts to integrate the dreamlike wisdom of your bodied revelations.

Circuit Training (In Person Weekly in Grass Valley)

A one-hour class performed with a trainer’s supervision to ensure your form is correct. Circuit training involves endurance training, resistance training, and high-intensity interval training, with all exercises performed in a circuit. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all set exercises in the program. This class is good for all levels of fitness, and builds strength, stamina, healthy range of motion, and muscular endurance. Each class features a rotating focus: chest/triceps, back/biceps, shoulders/abs, legs/glutes, and whole body.
