Ecstatic Chill 3.12: Closing the Loop (Sun 12/15/24 3-4:30pm PT / 6-7:30 pm ET, Livestream + Replay)
from $12.00
In our final monthly Ecstatic Chill class of 2024, we explore an often overlooked component of shoulder health and mobility: internal rotation. This is also the shoulder joint action you need for many intermediate and advanced yoga poses that feature arm binds.
We’ll do some upper back and shoulder mobility work -- like self myofascial release and nerve flossing -- to find balance in the spiraling soft tissues around our shoulder joints. These tissues create a kind of a vortex of a soft-tissue socket that is strong, mobile, and resilient when in optimal amounts of tension.
Then we’ll explore arm binding in balancing and forward folding postures like marīchyāsana (pose of the sage Marīchi) and standing marīchyāsana, utkatāsana (chair pose), uttitha parśvakonāsana (extended side angle). We’ll complete our practice by balancing our upper bodies with shoulder blade retraction and upper back extension in sālamba sarvāṅgāsana (shoulderstand) and yin and restorative postures.
Ecstatic Chill is a monthly Vinyasa Flow + Yin + Restorative Yoga mini workshop in a monthly subscription or drop-in format. Each Ecstatic Chill class begins with a somatic exploration and a vinyasa flow warm up, builds to a crescendo, then melts into longer-held poses, lots of rest, and centering breathwork (prāṇāyāma). We’ll explore intermediate and challenging poses in generative tension with restful ones, allowing ourselves to be supported as we redefine what it means to go deep. Though intermediate poses will be offered, this class is appropriate for all levels.
Purchasing the class also entitles you to the replay for 30 days following the livestream.
