In our ninth monthly Ecstatic Chill class of 2023, we’ll explore the king of yoga poses: headstand. We’ll do a ton of detailed prep work for our necks, shoulders, upper backs, core canisters, and arms to make the pose maximally accessible. This will include volumizing breathwork and postures like navāsana (boat pose), tri pada adho mukha śvanāsana (three-legged downward facing dog), ūrdhva prasārita eka padāsana (standing split), and ardha pinca mayūrāsana (dolphin pose). We’ll also end with more work on sālamba sarvangāsana (supported shoulderstand), because in general headstand shouldn’t be practiced without shoulderstand to mitigate any potential neck and shoulder tension we might accrue.
